The Fund for Thomas More College
Ben Schieman

My name is Ben Schieman, and I'm a junior at Thomas More College. I want to share my experience as a student here and tell you about an opportunity to help future students like me.

After my first visit to TMC, the "love at first sight" impression made me realize that this was where I was destined to spend my college years. I knew from the start that Thomas More would positively impact my intellectual, social and spiritual senses, bracing me for anything my future could possibly hold.

Though I could not imagine attending college anywhere else, I would realistically not be able to attend Thomas More if it were not for such generous financial aid in the form of scholarships. Because of individuals, couples and families (many of them alumni) who share their resources with the College, a Thomas More education is more accessible to anyone who desires it and is willing to study and work hard. In a few years down the road, I will most likely be asked to share my financial resources with the college, giving back to the institution that so positively changed me from a child to a young adult and prepared me to face the challenges of the real world. I plan to embrace that opportunity to give so that another student like me has his/her chance to pursue a degree from TMC.

On behalf of all the students, thank you for helping make Thomas More College what it is today.

Sincerely,

Giving to Thomas More College

Investing in the Future

The Fund for Thomas More College is a large part of making a Thomas More College education affordable for our students. This yearly funding source helps bridge the gap between tuition and the total cost of attending Thomas More. It also keeps down tuition costs and fees for students and their families.

At most four-year independent colleges, tuition and fees cover approximately 70% of the full cost of an education. The remaining costs must be made up from other sources; at Thomas More College, The Fund supports our scholarship program.

The Fund for Thomas More College helps keep tuition down, scholarships up, and defrays ongoing operating costs for the College. Gifts to The Fund are earmarked for Presidential Scholarships, which assist deserving students who would otherwise be unable to attend Thomas More College. In the last year, over $790,000 has been awarded in Presidential Scholarships.

Counting on Alumni Support

Alumni support grant

The percentage of alumni who support the Fund for Thomas More College is just as important as the amount given. From modest gifts of $25 a year to gifts of over $1,000, contributions from alumni form the heart of a strong college.

Continuous alumni support demonstrates your confidence in the value of a Thomas More education and the philosophy that a liberal arts education is an excellent preparation for life. Many foundations and corporations weigh the alumni participation rate when awarding grants to colleges and universities. The rate of alumni giving also greatly influences national rankings of colleges and universities, such as those published in college guidebooks and U.S. News & World Report.

Counting on Friends of the College

Current and past parents, friends of the College and others are invited to make gifts each year to The Fund. You need not be an alumnus or family member to recognize the importance of ongoing support to ensure that Thomas More can continue to provide the best liberal arts education to students from all financial backgrounds.

All gifts, large and small, are vital to our future. You can make monetary gifts by contributing online or sending a check made payable to Thomas More College. Checks can be sent to:
