Personal Statement Essay and Human Relations Incident

Directions: Use a word processor, 1-inch margins, single spacing, 12 point font for Part I and Part II.

I. Personal Statement Essay
Write a brief autobiography, 300-500 words, which includes life and work experiences. Relate the essay to your planned certification area. Include your knowledge of and experiences with issues facing schools today. You may use the KY and Thomas More Teacher Standards (included in application packet) as a guide.

II. Human Relations Incident

In a 1-2 page essay, respond to a human relations incident according to the following prompt:

Think of a significant past event, which involved yourself in a teaching role with one or more other persons. That is, from a human relations standpoint, this event had special meaning for you. In writing about this event, please use the following format:

FIRST: Describe the situation as it occurred at the time.

SECOND: What did you do in the particular situation?

THIRD: How did you feel about the situation at the time you were experiencing it?

FOURTH: How do you feel about the situation now? Would you wish to change any part of it?
