Prepare With Confidence
Psychology is a good major if you’re fascinated by human behavior. You’ll study normal and abnormal behavior, learning, development and cognition, as well as how to conduct research in psychology. As a psychology major at Thomas More College, you will attend small classes, usually with less than 25 students, and become acquainted with both applied and scientific aspects of the field. You’ll have the opportunity to intern at a hospital or in industry, to conduct and present research at an undergraduate conference and to engage in service projects related to your major. Such experiences contribute to your success in entering graduate school or the workforce.
Program Highlights
Thomas More College Host to Psychology Research Conference

On April 12, 2008, several hundred psychology majors, from 30 to 40 institutions throughout the mid United States, presented research papers and poster sessions during a day long conference of research and guest speakers. Pictures, program and information about the 2008 conference can be found at the MAUPRC website. Information about the 2009 conference at Franklin College, including online registration, will be available at the MAUPRC website early in 2009.

The curriculum meets all ten goals identified by the Task Force on Undergraduate Psychology Major Competencies (2002) of the American Psychology Association.

Internships and Research Experiences
Each year psychology majors have the opportunity to do internships at local hospitals, businesses, and research facilities. All students who plan to attend graduate school are strongly encouraged to engage in independent research, and the department has a strong undergraduate research program.
National Honor Society in Psychology and Psychology Club
Thomas More College has a chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. The Psychology Club and the Honor Society co-sponsor student activities such as the fall cookout, guest speakers, and community service projects. All interested students may participate.
Psychology Bowl
The Psychology Department competes each year in the Kentucky Psychological Association’s Psychology Bowl. Psych Bowl is a Jeopardy-style contest in which students from Kentucky colleges and universities compete to answer questions from all areas of psychology. The team was state runner-up in the 2007 competition and is looking forward to the 2008 contest.
